The Truth Behind SEO
By Sally Ormond of Briar Copywriting
If you run a business online, infact if you have a website, search engine optimisation is vital. You see, your website won't be any use to you if you don't get any traffic. It would like having a high street shop without any customers. SEO can be a mine field but you don't need an indepth knowledge to get it working for you. Just remember a few key points and you'll be well on your way to good Google rankings. Keywords - Use your main keyword in your title tag (if possible as the first word) - Have your keyword in your domain name - Use your keyword in your H1 headings - Use your keyword in your internal anchor text links Page copy (non-keywords) - Use relevant, good quality content - Keep your content fresh Links - Get as many inward links as possible, preferably through your keyword anchor text. This may not been the most technical or indepth look at SEO you've ever seen, but it does highlight the basics. Your content should always be fresh and relevant - Google loves content so if you can get it written by a professional freelance copywriter, you'll have a stronger chance of it working for you. Why use a professional? Well, when you start getting lots of traffic, if your content doesn't 'sell' or engage your reader, it won't convert into sales. So you could generate loads of traffic through your SEO efforts, but if your visitors don't buy all your efforts would be wasted. As for links, a great way to do this is by having a blog. A blog is a fabulous way to generate lots of unique content that Google loves. Write your blog posts with your keywords in mind. Then link back to your main website using keyword anchor text links. Good luck with it. And remember, there are loads of companies out there who claim to guarantee front page Google rankings - no one can guarantee this.
