SEO - This Missing Link
By Sally Ormond of Briar Copywriting
Before I go any further, I just want to go over a few givens for online marketers. You need to know how people will find you (keywords), have a great website that is structured around those keywords, amazing SEO content that will entice and convince your visitors to buy and, of course, visitors to your website. You know that but all too often the last requirement - the visitors - slips under the radar. Among the many services I offer my clients, SEO copywriting is one of the most popular. With a bit of luck people come to me having done their keyword research. They've found a web designer to create an SEO friendly, well structured website that is easy to navigate. So all they need is the SEO copy. After working closely with the client to ensure I fully understand their company, its products and the needs of their audience the copy is written and uploaded into the website. Then a few days later they're on the phone saying that their rankings haven't improved. It's only the beginning The problem is that getting a website with great content on the web is only the first stage of their SEO strategy - they just don't realise that. Apart from the fact that nothing's going to happen until Google's crawled the website(and there's no telling how long that will take), work still has to be done to get your SEO working and visitors to your website. This simple equation should help explain things: Well structured website + SEO copy + links = great rankings It's the links that people forget. If you don't have any links pointing to your website there's nothing there to convince Google that your site rocks and should be high up in the rankings. SEO is a continuous process. The websites you see at the top of the rankings have got there through hard work. If you want to join them you'll have to: - Blog (and link back to your site using your keywords) - Write and submit articles - Enter your website on various online directories - Get active on forums and social media sites If you thought a fab website and great copy was going to get you to number 1, think again (unless you're targeting an incredibly uncompetitive keyword that no one searches for). Achieving and maintaining great rankings demands continuous hard work. There are no short cuts to organic rankings; you have to be prepared to work for them. So when you commission new SEO copy or a new website, remember the part you have to play in your own success. If you want your SEO strategy to succeed you have to be prepared to put in the work.
