Making Wishes Come True

Wouldn't it be great if we could make our wishes come true? What would you wish for? A new car, a bigger house, a luxury holiday? How about just seeing a smile on your child's face and to be normal for a day? When I am not being a copywriter I am a Volunteer Wish Granter for the Make-A-Wish Foundation UK. It is a charity that grants the magical wishes of children aged between 3 and 17 who are living with life threatening illnesses. My role is to go out and meet the children who have been referred to us and their families to talk about their wishes. Believe me, they can be incredibly varied - it is amazing what a child's imagination can dream up. I've had wishes from a visit to Disneyland to a trip to Blackpool or a new laptop to wanting to meet Spiderman. The charity doesn't receive any Government funding so it is reliant on public donations. The average wish costs about £3500. The whole family are involved so it is a special day for everyone. The wish days truly are magical. It is incredible to see the children smiling and having so much fun. In fact that is often a comment I hear from the parents - "it is so nice to see them smile. It is a wonderful opportunity for us to have fun like normal families." The Make-a-Wish Foundation is an incredible charity making magical wishes come true. |
