How To Quickly Boost Your Web Copy's Optimisation
By Sally Ormond of Briar Copywriting
Everyone knows their website has to be optimised if they want to get great rankings in the search engine results. But SEO can be a confusing world. So let's for a moment forget about the realms of keyword research, website structure and link building. For the purposes of this intel we'll just concentrate on what you can do quickly with your web copy. Of course, it goes without saying that you should use a professional copywriter but there are also a few things you can do yourself to help the optimisation of your web copy. 1. Headline I'm sure you already know this but your headline has to grab your reader's attention to make them want to read on. If your headline is weak they'll walk away. 2. Make an impact I'm assuming your headline's done the trick and they're now reading your site. The first few lines of text have to live up to the reader's expectations. Make sure you state the benefits and that any images you use compliment your copy. 3. WIIFM? What’s in it for me? As in your reader - what are they going to get from this experience? Hit them with the benefits of what it will mean to them to buy your product or service. 4. Hey good looking People scan information on a web page so make sure yours is readable and accessible. Break it up with great headings and sub headings to show the reader what information is contained on your page. Above all make it: - Relevant - Reputable (great content will build your reputation and encourage links) - Remarkable (only good copy will build your reputation) - Readable - Reach out to your reader 5. We If 'we' appears on your site more than 'you/your' you're in trouble. Too many ‘wes’ make you sound self-centred. The reader doesn't care about you, they want to know what you're going to do for them. 6. How you speak The tone of voice you use is vital - avoid jargon and keep it conversational. Also try to avoid the passive voice; an active voice will keep your reader involved. 7. Hypertext You use hypertext links to help your reader navigate through your website. By making sure the linked text contains your keywords you'll get added value for them. This is just a short and sweet list of a few quick fixes you can make. It probably won't propel you to that coveted number one spot, but it will help especially when used in conjunction with good keyword research, the right tags and a great website design and structure.

Great advice. I have been trying to get my articles and blog popular, but it's never an easy task, even if you do have good spelling and grammar. Headlines are great, but sometimes I think they can be too catchy, and put readers off.
Even though he invented the Internet, the search engines will change the "Al Gore Rhythm" they use for SEO tomorrow just to make it interesting. These are all some pretty good basic steps to follow for good placement over the long run. I get some very interesting phone calls with the headline, "Wood Floor Problems? Answers to hardwood floor troubles are a phone call away."
