A New Decade, A New Dream

Another decade has almost past. Personally, my next decade (where apparently life begins) is fast approaching. The noughties saw me achieve my degree, start my own business and see it flourish into the busy and very rewarding way of life I now enjoy. But a new decade always makes me stop and take stock of my life. My dream, for as long as I can remember, is to become a writer. Yes, I have certainly achieved that in my buisness enjoying great success with my commercial writing. But what I am really looking for is success in with fictional writing. For years I have written in the hope that someone will discover me. I long for the day I can walk into a bookshop and see my name up on the bestseller shelf (or any shelf come to that). So now I have decided to give it another try. I've shortlisted the literary agents I want to approach and am preparing myself for the inevitable rejections. But it is a dream I shall continue to persue - because you never know, one day it might just happen. Never give up on your dreams.

Literary agents are a queer breed. They judge not the intrinsic value of your work, but who you are. In addition to doing what you are planning to do, you may also wish to invest some time in networking - via old classmates, colleagues, relatives, or even online sites such as this one - and develop contacts until you are introduced to a literary agent or publisher over coffee or cocktails. Either way, good luck! I hope it works out for you.
